Luna Fixa: A Saal Digital Book Test

Hey hey!

I’m so glad that you took the time to read this and any other posts I decide to share. A lot has happen this year and many things have been forgotten due to the course of events or some other obligation. This is an example of the former more so than the latter.

Earlier this year while scrolling through Instagram I stumbled upon an ad for a $150 voucher to test out a book printing service from a company called Saal Digital that’s based in Germany. They print photobooks, calendars, and other print products. I thought this would be a great opportunity to try out a new product so I went ahead and applied. Worse case scenario, I didn’t get picked and only “lost” a few moments typing in my info. To my surprise, I received an email within a few days letting me know I was chosen.

Following the directions in the email, they only asked for an honest review of their photobook in exchange for the voucher. The one I chose to review was the Photobook Professional Line. I downloaded their free software, collected my images, and then began to create my new book. After some going back and forth with myself on the layout, which was super easy in their software, the book was finished and uploaded. Due to everything that has been going on, it took about two weeks to arrive. This is in no way a negative because the world was in a state of chaos at the time I ordered. Once I got my book in the mail, I was surprised at the remarkable quality of the it.

The dimensions of the book I selected are 9”x12” closed and 17.5”x12” when fully opened.

The cover is a thick acrylic plastic, the inner pages are high quality laminated paper, and the outer cover is black leather. The images which are a combination of digital drawings and photography were reproduced exactly the way I originally created them. In my opinion, this would be a great product for photographers and artists that want to showcase their work in the highest light. Saal Digital has a variety of customization options available to make each project unique. They also charge for the books by the page count which can lead to some very creative expressions.

The cons of this product are few and may or may not be major to some people. The price of the book does not make it a candidate, I think, for large run reproduction. This one book used a majority of my voucher. However, I believe that the quality of the book itself would aid a freelancer in gaining more customers so it’s worth the upfront cost. They would be a great addition for wedding photographers to suggest to their clients as a long lasting keepsake. I don’t think my book would lose image quality or be damaged in even the toughest conditions.

Overall, I was beyond excited about how this project turned out and hope that you will order your next book with them. If you do, I would love to see a flip though video or images of it! Feel free to message me either here or on any of my social media spots (@RansburgArt).

Thank you again for taking the time to read this and have an amazing day!
